HORN in North America
Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrik Paul Horn GmbH, was founded on November 1, 1969 by Mr. Paul Horn in Waiblingen. Its name then was Paul Horn Einstechtechnik. Right from the start, initially in Gomaringen and Nehren, the company produced high precision grooving, side turning and slot milling tools for demanding metal working users. In doing so, HORN quickly developed its reputation as an innovative problem solver in the area of machining.
Our customer base today includes customers from the automotive, automotive supply, aerospace, medical and toolmaking and mould making sectors. Once Horn became established in the market, the product range grew constantly as did the number of personnel.
As a result, in 1981 Production and Administration moved into a common building in Tübingen in 1981. At the same time, the share capital increased and the name was changed to Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrik Paul Horn GmbH. By 1991, however, the capacity of this production facility was also no longer sufficient, leading to construction of what is now our main factory building.
Lothar Horn also joined the company in 1991 and took over the position of Managing Director in 1995. In addition Horn Hartstoffe GmbH was founded in 1991 to advance the development of our own carbide grades and geometry concepts.
Establishment of the sister companies in France, England, the USA and Hungary followed in the years 1993 to 2001, enhancing the relationship between Horn and our key markets.
A further major step was development of the new building in Tübingen in 1999. Management, sales, training and seminar rooms, a demonstration, research and development centre and the complete production including an in-house coating centre were combined on a site with total surface area of approximately 9000 m2.
Almost 1.300 employees worldwide now work for the company. This is 10 times as many as 20 years ago and the trend is continuing to increase. The production area was doubled again in Spring 2008 with the third "Unter dem Holz" building section.
Today, innovative tools for demanding grooving applications are produced at the Tübingen location on ultramodern systems housed in a production area of more than 12,000 m2.
